Read more”The best and bad are very much in line with what we would call the ‘biggest winners’ and ‘big losers’, with big wins being a great thing for the industry and great for the people involved,” Mr Williams said.
“But there’s no doubt that a lot of the winners are not necessarily the best of the best.”
The categories were created in the early 1900s to honour writers who had written an important book.
In the past, the webtober awards have also been used to award the best new novel.
But in 2016, the awards were overhauled to recognise the best and brightest writers.
In 2017, it was announced that the prize would be given to an author who wrote at least five books a year and had achieved a significant amount of success.
The 2018 winner, writer Michael Swanwick, won the webtrober award for his first novel, The Little House on the Prairie.
The 2017 winner, Michael Swanis, won an additional prize for writing The Little White Lady, a sequel to The Little Houses of the Wood.
In 2016, a group of writers and literary agents named the winners of the Webtrober Awards, recognising writers with a high profile who had “created significant value for the literary community”.
The 2018 award, which is named after the award winning author, will be announced on Wednesday.
“The winner will receive an award recognising his or her contribution to the literary landscape,” the organisers said.
“The Webtrobert will be presented by a member of the Academy of Fine Arts, the Australian Writers’ Association, the Writers Guild of Australia, and the Writers of Australia.”
Mr Williams said that the winners would be selected from an online list of finalists.
“In the case of this year’s Webtrobers, the winner will be chosen by the members of the community,” he said.
