By MELISSA STURGEONPublished June 24, 2019 10:30:03When people hear “best-selling author” they think “best book.”
When they hear “favorite author” and “best story” they assume that the author is famous, popular, or in the running for a Pulitzer Prize.
But there is another category of best-selling book that gets less consideration than most, even if it’s more critically acclaimed and is considered to be one of the best books of the year: the “bestseller of the week.”
These “best seller” awards are given to a book that has sold more than 500,000 copies in the previous 24 hours, or more than one-third of the U.S. total of U.K. best-seller lists.
This category has a lot to do with the fact that this category is so broad.
There are hundreds of authors and hundreds of books that sell millions of copies, and the number of books being listed in the best-sellers section of the New York Times, or the Wall Street Journal, has exploded in recent years.
It’s not that these best-solders are the most valuable books in the world.
But the way we view books and their importance to society, and how books can influence people, is changing rapidly.
Best sellers include the biggest movies of the summer, the best TV shows of the decade, the biggest books of 2017, the hottest books of 2018, and more.
The best-read book of the moment is still a work in progress.
But as the world of publishing expands and advances, there’s no better time to take a look at the bestseller of our time.

There are some clear winners in this category.

The best of the 2017-2018 seasonThe bestsellers of 2017-18 are a big part of what makes a book the best it can be.
